Media Advisory: Jefferson's Rough Drafts of Declaration of Independence on Display at the Library of Congress
WHAT: First-ever public exhibition of only surviving
fragment of earliest known draft of the
Declaration of Independence in Thomas Jefferson's
hand, as well as his four-page "original Rough
draught" showing revisions made by Jefferson,
Benjamin Franklin, John Adams and others. Among
related treasures on display are a letter Thomas
Jefferson wrote shortly before his death in 1826
expressing his still strongly-held views on
individual and national liberty.
