May 9, 1996Contact: Craig D'Ooge (202) 707-9189Media Advisory: Forum on Research and Technology Advances in Digital LibrariesA forum on research and technology advances in digital libraries will be held at the Library of Congress, Mumford Room, Sixth Floor, Madison Building May 13-15. The forum is sponsored by NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center, The National Library of Medicine, the IEEE Computer Society (Data Engineering TC and Digital Libraries TF, and the Library of Congress. The forum is intended to bring together researchers from universities, industry, and government to discuss evolving research issues and applications in digital libraries. It will feature research papers, panels, exhibits, prototypes, and applications of digital libraries in science and industry. The focus of the panels will be on issues related to global digital libraries for environmental monitoring, law, medicine, and electronic commerce. Librarian of Congress James H. Billington will deliver welcoming remarks on Monday, May 13 at 1:15 p.m. Sen. Bob Kerrey (D) of Nebraska will address the group at a banquet in the Great Hall of the Library's Thomas Jefferson Building Tuesday, May 14, at 7:30 p.m. # # # PR 96-73 |
