Senior forward Ryan Gervais (Chicago, Ill.) scored a goal and added two assists on Saturday night to spark Nichols to a 5-2 comeback victory over the Franklin Pierce University ice hockey team in ECAC Northeast Conference play at The Winchendon School Ice Arena. Nichols junior forward Zeke Costello (Shelby Township, Mich.) chipped in with a pair of goals as the Bison netted five unanswered tallies to erase the Ravens’ two-goal lead, taken within the first six minutes of the game.

The Nichols College women’s basketball team opened The Commonwealth Coast Conference play with a 67-53 win over Roger Williams University Saturday afternoon. The Bison were led by a double-double from sophomore Michele Guerin (Chicopee, Mass.), who posted 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. The win marked the ninth-straight for the Bison, who improve to 10-2 on the season and 1-0 in TCCC action. The Hawks drop to 2-10 overall and 0-1 in conference play.

Freshman forward Stacey Hochkins scored three goals as the Holy Cross women’s ice hockey team shut out Nichols, 6-0, in ECAC East action Saturday afternoon at the Hart Center. With the win, Holy Cross improves to 12-0-1 (8-0-1 ECAC) and remains unbeaten, while Nichols falls to 1-10-0 (0-7-0 ECAC). Nichols first-year goaltender Christine Mazza (Dedham, Mass) shouldered the loss with 47 saves.

Four players scored in double digits, including first-year forward Pete Atkins (Gainesville, Fla.), who put up 20 points and 11 rebounds, to lead the Nichols College men’s basketball team to an 81-71 win over visiting Roger Williams College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference opener for both teams Saturday afternoon. Nichols (6-7, 1-0 TCCC) expanded on a three-point halftime lead, and received 19 points from junior guard Chris Paquin (Barre, Mass.) and 16 points from junior guard Bryan Riley (West Boylston, Mass.), 12 of which came at the free-throw line.

Nichols College junior Lawrence Scott (Oxford, Mass.) has been named to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III New England All-Star Team, announced earlier this week. The post-season award marks the third this year for the return specialist who led the New England Football Conference and ranked eighth in the nation averaging 28.7 yards per kick return.

First-year forward Pete Atkins (Gainesville, Fla.) netted a game-high 21 points to lead the Nichols College men's basketball team to a come-from-behind victory over host University of Massachusetts Boston, 63-56, Tuesday at the Clark Athletic Center on the campus of UMass Boston.  The win improves the Bison to 5-7 on the season, while the Beacons drop to 2-8 overall.

Nichols College junior Melissa Mansfield (Medford, N.Y.) has been named the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference East Women’s Hockey League Goaltender of the Week, for play ending Sunday, January 4, 2009. Mansfield backstopped the Bison to their first collegiate victory, earning her first career shutout win in the 1-0 win over Chatham at the St. Michael’s Holiday Tournament.

Nichols College women's basketball senior guard MaryLynn Skarzenski (Woodbridge, N.J.) has been named The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Division III New England and The Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Week, for play ending Sunday, January 4, 2009. Skarzenski was named the Most Valuable Player of the Key Largo Classic after leading the Bison to a pair of victories and helping her team extend its winning streak to eight games.
