The Scoop
You have been a music legend for many years. What inspired you to write your new children's picture book - Say a Little Prayer?
I've always wanted to write a book of inspiration and felt who better to inspire than children?
What was it like to collaborate with other authors and illustrators in writing this book?
It was quite easy once discussing the idea and facts. To see how these issues were taken and used I think was the most interesting part of the process.
What challenges do you face in your writing process? How do you overcome them?
The biggest challenge was for me reducing my thoughts to what was to appear in the book. I don't think you ever overcome the instinct to overload the content you would like to see in the book. It's the same process each time.
What advice can you give to aspiring writers - or singers?
Advice I don't give. I can suggest what is my mantra…"If you can think it you can do it."
What is your list of favorite children or teen books?
The Little Engine That Could is my favorite for obvious reasons.
If you were not singing or writing, what do you think you would be doing?
I would always be singing, but if I were not singing professionally, I would be teaching.
What is your advice to parents for passing the joys of reading on to their children?
I think reading to your children is a must, and ask them to read to you.
