Family History (National Archives of Scotland)
The National Archives of Scotland holds records useful to family historians, such as wills and testaments, Sasines and other property records, estate records, valuation rolls, taxation records, court records, church records, and Burgh records. The Archives online catalog contains descriptions of material down to item level.
Family History (National Library of Wales)
The National Library of Wales is the principal center for researching Welsh genealogy. The site provides some archival search databases.
FamilySearch
Free genealogical research information from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Resources for the United Kingdom include step-by-step research guidance on searching for ancestors in England, Scotland, and Wales; British names and pedigrees in the International Genealogical Index, Pedigree Resource File, and Ancestral File; the 1881 British Census, searchable by name; and the Family History Library Catalog, searchable for British family histories and for published resources and microfilm records for localities in the United Kingdom. Local Family History Centers provide worldwide access to most of the microfilms and microfiche in the Family History Library.
General Register Office for Scotland
Official online source of parish register, civil registration and census records for Scotland. Registration and fees are required for access to the online databases, although there are some portions of the website that are free.
GENUKI
Free, noncommercial genealogical information service for the UK and Ireland.
Local History and Genealogy Reading Room, Library of Congress
Primary entry point for genealogy research at the Library of Congress. The site includes bibliographies of published genealogy resources for England, Scotland, and Wales.
The Origins Network
The site contains comprehensive and exclusive British and Irish record collections dating back to the 13th century and rare and unique photos and books to browse. Most of the site is available to paying subscribers only, but some free access is offered.
