Biography:
Charles Simic was recently appointed 15th U.S. Poet Laureate Consultant in Poetry by the Librarian of Congress James H. Billington. The author of 18 books of poetry, Simic is also an essayist, translator and editor. His work has been recognized with several awards including the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1990 for his book of prose poems "The World Doesn't End." Simic will appear in the Poetry Pavilion.

The 2007 National Book Festival, organized and sponsored by the Library of Congress and hosted by First Lady Laura Bush will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2007, on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., between 7th and 14th streets from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The festival is free and open to the public.
