Writing Center - Tutorial

Suggestions For Tailoring Your Tutorial To Meet Your Needs

Set your own goals for the tutorial.
What kind of help do you want from a reader? When you set even a rough agenda of items to cover in the tutorial, you can be sure to get the most out of your time together.

Bring both your assignment and any work you've done to this point.
Bring an assignment sheet, a description of the assignment in your textbook, or your class notes. If you don't have a draft, bring in your questions.

Do some preliminary work.
Think carefully about the assignment. Does your draft satisfy the assignment? Why or why not?

List your questions and mark sections of your draft that you are unsure of and would like to concentrate on in the tutorial.

If you have time, try outlining what you have written. This may be a good way of rethinking the overall organization of your paper. In addition, think about comments and suggestions that have been made on other papers you've written and apply them to this task.

Remember you are in control of your tutorial. After all, it is your paper; you are the reason the Writing Center exists.
