SENATORS COLLINS & LIEBERMAN STATEMENT FOLLOWING 9/11 COMMISSIONERS PRESS CONFERENCE

Washington, DC – Following a press conference this afternoon held by 9/11 Commissioners, Senators Susan Collins (R-ME) and Joseph Lieberman (D-CT) released the following statement. The press conference included 9/11 Commission Chair Tom Kean, Vice Chair Lee Hamilton, and Commissioner Timothy Roemer. Senators Collins and Lieberman are leading Senate conferees in negotiating with House members on intelligence reform legislation.

The following is a joint statement by Senators Collins and Lieberman:

“We’re pleased that the 9/11 Commission once again reiterated its support for the Senate intelligence reform bill, particularly the language giving the National Intelligence Director strong budget and execution authority.

“We will continue to work as long as it takes to pass real and comprehensive intelligence reform in Congress. We expect to meet again later today with the two House conference leaders to continue our work, with a goal of completing a conference report this week.”
