Drug-Free Work Week takes place every October. Its purpose is to educate employers, employees and the general public about the importance of being drug-free as a component of improving workplace safety and health and to encourage workers with alcohol and drug problems to seek help. Mining workplaces can be particularly vulnerable to substance use and abuse issues due to the nature of the work and the physical demands placed on miners.
