FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE FOR INFORMATION CONTACT: July 11, 2008 Corey Britt, Deputy United States Marshal Lafayette, Louisiana (337) 262-6792 (Office)   Wilfred Vangure, 2nd Degree Murder Suspect Arrested in Houston   Early Saturday morning at about 1:00 a.m. Wilfred Vangure allegedly shot and killed 19 year old Paxton Simon of New Iberia at the Loose Caboose in Lafayette. The Lafayette Police Department quickly identified the shooter and began the search for 22 year old Wilfred Vangure. On Monday morning, the Lafayette Police Department requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force in locating and arresting Vangure. Task force members quickly adopted the fugitive case and began searching for Vangure. This fugitive investigation initially took task force officers to the New Iberia area where it was determined that Vangure had fled. Investigative leads then directed the investigation to Houston where task force officers believed that Vangure was “laying low” until the “heat” died down. Yesterday, a formal request was sent to the U.S. Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force requesting Task Force officers in Houston to locate and arrest Vangure. Numerous investigative leads were tracked down in both Lafayette and Houston and at 10:55 a.m. Vangure was arrested at 19527 Copper Vine, Houston, TX. Vangure was arrested without incident, was booked into the Harris County Jail, and is waiting extradition back to Lafayette to face his charges of 2nd Degree Murder. This fugitive investigation was undertaken by the following agencies: U.S. Marshals, Lafayette; U.S. Marshals, Houston; Lafayette Police Department; Lafayette City Marshals; and Iberia Sheriffs Office. William Whittington, United States Marshal for the Western District of Louisiana said, “The coordinated effort of all law enforcement to bring dangerous criminals to justice ensures that the streets and neighborhoods of Louisiana are a safer place to raise our children.” Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More federal fugitives are arrested by Marshals than all other federal agencies combined. The Western District of Louisiana’s Task Force is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from agencies throughout the Western part of Louisiana (Shreveport, Monroe, Lake Charles, Alexandria, Opelousas, and Lafayette). The task force objective is to seek out and arrest federal, state, and local fugitives, mainly those with violent criminal histories to include sex offenders.
