U.S. MARSHALS CAPTURE AIR FORCE DESERTER CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND ATTEMPTED RAPE

DECATUR, GA - At approximately 7:00 PM last night, members of the U.S. Marshals’ Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) and officers from the DeKalb County Police Department arrested Darryl Anthony Green, 20, at an apartment in Decatur, GA. Green was wanted by the Glynn County Police Department in Brunswick, GA for one count each of aggravated assault by shooting, kidnapping, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime, criminal damage to property, criminal attempt to commit rape, and false imprisonment. He was also wanted by the United States Air Force for desertion after he absconded from active duty while serving in an enlisted capacity at the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base in Goldsboro, NC.

In the early morning hours of Monday, February 11, 2008, Green allegedly drove to Brunswick and engaged in a confrontation with his wife. During the confrontation, Green reportedly attempted to sexually assault his wife and as she attempted to escape the residence with her small child, Green armed with a handgun; fired at her. Green then held his wife and their child captive inside the residence for over twelve hours until around noon that day. At that time, he left the residence and fled the scene in a silver Chevy Impala. U.S. Marshals immediately began assisting the Brunswick Police Department in the investigation and soon developed information that Green had fled to the Atlanta area.

At approximately 6:00 PM last night, task force personnel identified the apartment complex where they believed Green and an associate to be hiding. Additionally, they located Green’s silver Impala parked in front of one of the units. While conducting surveillance, Green was observed briefly exiting an apartment before returning inside. A short time later, SERFTF investigators approached the target apartment where they observed Green through the front window. Investigators immediately commanded Green to the ground. When Green stood up he threw a pistol behind him and then dove to the ground. Green was arrested without further incident.

Recovered during the arrest was a .38 caliber handgun believed to have been used during the crime. During Green’s arrest, investigators also located and arrested Green’s accomplice Cedric Meredith inside of the apartment. Meredith was wanted for party to kidnapping, kidnapping of a minor, false imprisonment of a minor and false imprisonment of an adult. Both Green and Meredith were transported to the DeKalb County Jail to await extradition back to Brunswick.
