LaGrange, GA - At approximately
3:00 pm today, members of the U.S. Marshals led Southeast Regional
Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF) and officers from the LaGrange Police
Department arrested Gary Doniel King, 19, as he exited a residence
on Elm Street in LaGrange. King was wanted by authorities in the
Dutch colony of the Netherlands Antilles (NA), where he holds dual
citizenship, as a member of a group that committed at least twenty
five armed robberies on the island of St. Maarten from August, 2007
through November, 2007. During that time, multiple individuals
robbed houses, restaurants, and supermarkets, all at gunpoint and,
on three occasions, female victims were sexually assaulted in their
homes by the intruders. King has been named as an actual participant
in at least nine of those robberies.
Initial information received from the Antillean authorities was that
King entered the United States in Miami, FL on October 9, 2007 and
provided an address in Hinesville, Georgia. On December 14, 2007,
pursuant to an international treaty shared between the United States
and the government of the Netherlands Antilles, a provisional arrest
warrant was issued for King’s arrest by a U.S. magistrate judge in
the Southern District of Georgia.
Further investigation into King’s whereabouts revealed possible
addresses in the LaGrange area and on January 8, 2008, the lead was
forwarded to SERFTF investigators in Atlanta. On the 10th, after
further identifying King’s location as 609 Elm St., Apt. A,
surveillance was established on the residence by law enforcement
officers. At around 3:00 pm, King was positively identified as he
exited the duplex and began to walk down the street. He was taken
into custody at the scene without incident and transported to the
Troup County Jail where he will await a formal extradition hearing
before a U.S. federal judge.
The US Marshals’ led Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force (SERFTF)
is a team comprised of law enforcement officers from 25 local, state
and federal agencies. The task force’s objective is to seek out and
arrest the region’s most violent offenders. Since the inception of
the task force in September of 2003, the SERFTF has closed over
10,000 felony warrants.
