A fugitive wanted by the Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania Police Department for Murder was arrested by the U.S.
Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force this morning
December 13, 2007 at a Statesboro, Georgia address.
Lafayette Holt, 18, was being sought on a warrant issued in
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania charging him with Murder that occurred on
October 30, 2007. The case was referred to the U.S. Marshals Eastern
Pennsylvania Violent Crime Task Force to help locate and arrest this
subject. Leads generated by the Marshals Service Pennsylvania Task
Force indicated that Holt might be the in the Statesboro or
Savannah, Georgia areas. This information was given to the Marshals
Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force in Savannah, Georgia.
The Savannah Task Force generated leads that Holt was in Statesboro,
Georgia at a local apartment complex. Task Force officers set up
surveillance on the apartment and while waiting for additional
assistance, Holt exited the apartment and was arrested without
incident. The Statesboro Police Department provided assistance in
the capture.
Holt was taken to the Bulloch County Jail to await extradition back
to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals result in
the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More
federal fugitives are arrested by the Marshals Service than all
other federal agencies combined.
The Savannah Office of the Southeast
Regional Fugitive Task Force is a team comprised of law enforcement
officers from the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Chatham
County Sheriff=s Department, the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan
Police Department, and the United States Marshals Service. The task
force objective is to seek out and arrest fugitives charged with
violent crimes, drug crimes, sex offenders, and other felonies. Last
year, U.S. Marshals task forces arrested more than 27,000 state and
local fugitives on felony charges.
