Combating International Bribery Released by the Bureau of Economic and Business Affairs U.S. Department of State

On July 31, 1998 the U.S. Senate ratified the OECD Convention on Combating Bribery of Foreign Public Officials in International Business Transactions and approved implementing legislation. The Convention came into force on February 15, 1999 for the U.S. and 11 other signatories. As of January 1, 2001, the number of implementing states reached 25. As required by the Senate Resolution of Advice and Consent, in collaboration with other federal affairs agencies, the Department of State has published two of a series of six annual reports on the implementation and enforcement of the Convention. The reports reflect the same analysis, key points, and findings contained in the Department of Commerce's reports to the Congress required under the International Anti-Bribery and Fair Competition Act of 1998.
