Pelosi Statement on Humanitarian Aid to Republic of Georgia

Washington, D.C. -- Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today on the announcement by the Bush Administration of a humanitarian aid package to the Republic of Georgia:
“The United States forcefully condemned the Russian invasion of Georgia. On a bipartisan basis, Congress and the Bush Administration will deliver reconstruction and humanitarian assistance to the Georgian people as they recover from this assault on their sovereignty.
“This aid will help the Georgia rebuild what has been destroyed and will reaffirm the United States’ commitment to a peaceful and prosperous future for Georgia. I look forward to working with the Administration both on this critical assistance for the Georgian people, and on critical assistance to meet the emergency needs of Americans here at home, including disaster assistance and another economic recovery package to create jobs."
