Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act Amendments of 2005 (S.1899). The Indian Child Protection Act was enacted to respond to incidents of child sexual abuse perpetrated by school employees in Indian country. S.1899 is intended to address the current lack of comprehensive data that is available on the extent of child abuse in Indian Country. Many believe that this data, including numeric reporting data, is critical to understanding the scope and degree of resources necessary to address the problem. It encourages a collaborative effort between the responsible agencies and governments in collecting this data on an annual basis. Finally, it requires an annual report to the Congressional committees that have oversight responsibility over agencies that respond to the effects of child abuse.
