Assistant Secretary of the Army Tours
Hamilton City J Levee Project

(Washington, DC) - Congressman Herger today joined Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works John P. Woodley Jr. and local flood control officials for a briefing and boat tour of the Hamilton City Flood Damage Reduction and Ecosystem Restoration Project.  When constructed, this project will provide enhanced flood protection for the Hamilton City area.  Herger made the following comment regarding the tour:

"As someone who has witnessed the devastating consequences of flooding on several occasions, I believe protecting at-risk communities must be one of our nation's top priorities.  Constructing a new J Levee would provide a higher level of flood protection for Hamilton City residents and nearby agriculture land.  Securing federal support for this important project will continue to be a top priority of mine."

Secretary Woodley added, "The Hamilton City Flood Reduction and Environmental Restoration Project is one of the Corps' finest examples of partnership, environmental stewardship and flood damage reduction."

Herger concluded, "I want to thank Secretary Woodley for accepting my invitation to visit regions in the North State that are especially vulnerable to flooding.  This week's tours and briefings are providing the Secretary with a firsthand look at the need for enhanced flood protection in the region.  Among other important projects, I look forward to continuing to work with Secretary Woodley and local flood control leaders to protect the Hamilton City area from flooding."
