(Washington, DC) - Congressman Wally Herger today announced that he has nominated twelve "Class of 2012" candidates to the U.S. Service Academies. These academies consist of the U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
“I am honored to nominate to our nation’s service academies Northern Californians that stand out academically and demonstrate an unmistakable call to serve. These exceptional institutions consist of young men and women who are devoted to keeping our nation free, secure, and strong. The nominees and their families can feel extremely proud.”
Universally recognized as some of the nation's top colleges, each service academy accepts approximately 1,000 students per year and prides itself on developing and inspiring America's future military leaders. Only top students in our nation are accepted. Academy graduates often go on to successful careers in the military or serve our nation in other capacities.
Congressman Herger based his nominations on the recommendations of his Screening Committee, which is responsible for interviewing the applicants, reviewing their files, and recommending a slate of nominees. Having been nominated, the students must now compete with other nominees nationwide for an appointment to the academies. Academy officials will be offering appointments this spring.
