Taken from Exploring the Early Americas exhibit, this fine handmade glass paperweight depicts an image from the pages of one of the earliest documentations on the Americas, from Maria Sibylla Merian's book, Metamorphosis insetorum Surinamensium or Insects of Suriname, dating back to 1705 Amsterdam. Sibylla, an artist and scientist, depicts plants and insects of early America in this superbly illustrated book with large scale colored engravings.
