Discovering Our Delta

Welcome to Discovering Our Delta: A Learning Guide for Community Research. The learning guide is a useful tool for teaching students how to conduct research in their community and to communicate the results of that research to their classmates and others. The materials are user friendly and oriented toward students. The 26-minute video follows five students from the Mississippi Delta as they conduct research on their communities.

This web site tells you how to order the video. This web site also contains the text and appendices for both the student and the teacher guides that accompany the video. These kits have been distributed to middle and high schools in Mississippi. Schools in other areas may order the whole kit from the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage using the information provided below. Cost is $30 per kit plus shipping and handling, and the number is limited and subject to availability. Additional copies of the teacher's guide are available at $3.00 each plus shipping and handling.

Each complete kit includes the video and student and teacher guides. The text of the guides is offered here so that teachers may generate extra copies of the whole student and/or teacher guide, or parts thereof. Each guide has its own table of contents so that you may find the most useful sections for your purposes Please note especially the fieldwork forms in the appendices, since students will each need their own copies of these documents.
