Viewing Tips

RealMedia, a streaming file format, allows viewing of the video as it arrives at the user's computer, eliminating the need to download the video completely before viewing. Because of extreme file compression and the dependence on speed of the network connection. The standard size of the video is 320x240, this setting optimizes the bandwidth. If you try to view the video at full screen it will make the player unstable because it is receiving too much data. This is not a DVD player which is designed to play video at full screen.

Playback Performance Factors

There are a number of factors that could result in poor playback performance of these digital video files. If your system does not meet the following specifications, video playback may result in degraded performance, i.e., dropping of video frames resulting from playback displaying less than the standard 30 fps which results in rebuffering. Rebuffering is when something interrupts the smooth flow of streaming video.

Peak traffic hours- Rebuffer Issues

Just like driving to work, you will notice the network has peak usage times. They are 8-9 am and 4-5 pm. The start of the day and the end of the day. People check email, do other things on the Internet, etc, creating more use. If you try to view a video at this time of day you’re going to find Real Player will rebuffer.

Applications Open

If you are using more processing power by having multiple applications open you may notice rebuffering. Please close all applications and restart computer before viewing streaming video.
