May be restricted.
Access: Permitted; subject to P&P policy on serving
originals.
Reproduction (photocopying, hand-held camera copying,
photoduplication and other forms of copying allowed by "fair
use"): Permitted;
subject to P&P policy on copying. This policy prohibits xeroxing of
original drawings.
Publication and other forms of distribution: May be
restricted. Most of Berryman's cartoons were published in the Washington
Star. The "date" in the catalog record is the date Berryman signed the
cartoon and is the probably date of publication. If the cartoon was published
without copyright registration, or if there was no later copyright renewal,
the cartoon can be considered to be in the public domain. Otherwise rights
are in the hands of the Washington Post. Patrons can attempt to determine
if the cartoon was published in the Washington Star by browsing back issues
of the Star (available on microfilm in the Newspapers & Periodicals Reading
Room). If the cartoon is found in the Star, patrons can conduct a copyright
search. If the cartoon was not published, or if it cannot be determined
if it was published, patrons may seek permission to use
the image from:
