Congresswoman Susan Davis: We Need to Protect the Rights of All Americans

WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Susan Davis released the following statement on her support for H.R. 3685, the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), and her disappointment in the lack of protection for members of the transgender community.

“I believe we need to protect the rights of all Americans in the workplace.  Unfortunately, that is not the legislation we are discussing today.

“While I will vote for this version of ENDA because it is a tremendous step forward, I am proud to be an original cosponsor of the more comprehensive H.R. 2015 which would prohibit employers from hiring, firing or making other important decisions based solely on sexual orientation or gender identity.

“I am disappointed that my colleague, Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin, was not allowed a vote on her effort to make this bill more inclusive.

“I am proud to be a part of this historic moment in the House of Representatives.  This is only the beginning of rectifying the discrimination LGBT Americans have endured.  I will continue to advocate for comprehensive protections for them and their families.”
