| WASHINGTON – Congressman Dennis Cardoza, D-Merced, has received the Legislative Leadership Award for Domestic Manufacturing presented by the United States Business and Industry Council. Cardoza received the award for being one of the Top Ten Legislators in the 108th Congress. He was given a 96 percent rating on manufacturing-related issues, the fifth highest overall ranking in the entire House of Representatives. “I am honored that the United States Business and Industry Council has recognized my efforts on behalf of working people,” Cardoza said. “The fight for fair trade has never been more important. We need domestic manufacturing policies that will improve our economy and create jobs. The unabated outsourcing of American jobs cannot continue.” The U.S. Business and Industry Council, a national organization of over 1,000 small- and medium-sized domestic manufacturers, scored members on a total of 67 manufacturing-related issues that arose in the 108th Congress, as well as proposed legislation that was not considered. Members who voted to end the estate tax, enact liability reform, support fair trade reform and take a generally pro-business position scored high on the Council’s scorecard. “In his first two years, Congressman Cardoza showed a striking sense of awareness of the serious problems confronting our manufacturing and agricultural sectors as a result of tax and trade policies that harm American industry,” said Kevin L. Kearns, President of the United States Business and Industry Council. “Congressman Cardoza’s significant contributions to trade and economic policies affecting farmers and businessmen are outstanding.
