Description: ViFaOst provides extensive specialist academic information on the history, culture, politics and society of the countries and regions of Eastern Europe. Includes the most recent literature, bibliographies, databases, primary sources, full texts and other materials of interest. The search can be structured by subject, topic or region, and research functions are available in most East European languages (Unicode). Contains links to the following full text resources:

History:

  • Altrichter: The Soviet Union. From the October Revolution until Stalin's death
  • History Research Institutes in Southeastern Europe. A Handbook
  • Handbook of Modern History of Poland and Romania
  • Hösch/Grabmüller: Dates in Russian history
  • OstNet Subject Gateway - offers over 2,000 selected and annotated internet ressources on history, culture, politics and society of the countries and regions of Eastern Europe.
Politics and Society:
  • Seliger-Archive - historical archive of the Sudeten German community of social democrats (Gesinnungsgemeinschaft sudetendeutscher Sozialdemokraten) as well as an extensive collection of primary and secondary literature on the history of the German labour movement in pre- and post-WWII Czech lands.
  • Solidarność and the independent Polish press Database - contains a list of materials that were published by the Polish Underground between 1980 and 1990. Most materials originate in the labour union (especially Solidarność) and the university milieu.
