Senators Stabenow, Levin Announce $11.7 Million for Runway Construction, Other Projects at Detroit Metro Airport

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) today announced that an $11.7 million grant has been awarded to the Wayne County Airport Authority for land acquisition, construction, and environmental mitigation at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.

"The improvements being undertaken at Detroit Metropolitan Airport are important for marketing the metro Detroit area and for all air travelers who travel to or make connections at this airport," said Stabenow. "I am pleased this important Michigan facility will receive these transportation dollars."

"This funding will enable Wayne County Airport to expand their facilities to handle the increasing number of passengers who travel through this airport every year," said Levin. "Michigan residents and the many visitors to Michigan who use the airport will benefit greatly from the improvements that will be made."

Specifically, the terms of the $11,713,284 Department of Transportation grant say the money will be used to construct runway 9R/27L, acquire land for development, environmental mitigation, construct taxiway, construct apron, and construct runway 4L/22R.
