Senators Stabenow, Levin Announce Highway Funding for 12 Mile Road Project

WASHINGTON - U.S. Sens. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and Carl Levin (D-MI) today announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation is releasing $1.275 million for work along 12 Mile Road between Orchard Lake Road and Middlebelt Road. The money is being released under the terms of the Federal Highway Administration's Border and Corridor Grant Program.

"The Border and Corridor Grant Program is intended to aid in the planning, design and construction of corridors of economic growth," Stabenow said. "This grant will be of great benefit to the greater Detroit Metro area."

"As Michigan citizens make their summer driving plans, it is important that they are able to arrive at their destination as smoothly and safely as possible" Levin said. "This grant will go a long way to improve 12 Mile Road, Orchard Lake Road, and Middlebelt Road, making driving easier and safer for all our travelers."

Funds for this grant are being made available from the fiscal year 2003 Transportation Appropriations.
