Levin Announces Funding for Improvements to Michigan Airports

Michigan airports to receive $9,452,660 in grants from Federal Aviation Administration

WASHINGTON — Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., announced today that the Department of Transportation has awarded grants totaling over $9 million to eight Michigan airports for renovations and expansions aimed at bolstering safety and efficiency.

"With the construction of new runways and taxiways, larger terminals and new equipment among other renovations, travelers in Michigan will enjoy more efficient service in our airports," Levin said today. "This funding will enable Michigan airports to modernize their facilities to make use of the latest technologies and expand their facilities to more adequately handle the millions of passengers who travel through our airports every year."

The grant awards combine entitlement funding, which airports receive from the Federal Aviation Administration annually, and discretionary funds, which are determined by a competitive selection process among airports which have applied for funding for specific renovations and improvements.
