Levin Statement on House Vote on Canadian Trash Bill

WASHINGTON -- Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., made this statement following House passage of legislation that would enable states to regulate the importation of Canadian trash:

“In June of 2005, Senator Stabenow and I introduced a similar bill to the bill that was passed by the House today. The Senate bill has been buried in the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee for over a year without so much as a hearing, and a spokesperson for the Republican chair of that committee stated that the committee has no plans to hold a hearing on that bill. If the Senate Republican Leadership changes its mind and decides to bring this bill to the Senate for a vote, I will support it.”
