Ride Together -- Work Together -- Save Rubber for Victory During World War II, rubber was rationed, along with gasoline, meat, sugar, coffee and shoes. Trucks and jeeps needed millions of tires. But the rubber tree grows in the tropics and many traditional sources, such as Indonesia and the Philippines, were controlled by the enemy. By sharing rides, and thereby conserving rubber, civilians could contribute to the war effort indirectly.
