Terona Chivers' tour of duty in Vietnam as part of a helicopter crew was packed with moments of culture shock, from adjusting to the local cuisine to observing respect for a fallen comrade from the Vietnamese Army to his recuperation from a wound in an Alaskan hospital. He vividly describes fierce battles, tragic accidents, and the generosity of the civilians he encountered. He even got a welcoming home parade, rare for veterans of that war.
