The most important source for bibliography of books and articles concerning Cuba is the annual Handbook of Latin American Studies (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/hlas/) produced by over 130 contributing editors under the editorship of the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. Additional coverage of journal articles can be found through a subscription to the Hispanic American Periodical Index (http://hapi.gseis.ucla.edu/).   Both the Handbook and HAPI are available in selected libraries in book form.   One of the major aggregators for links to a wide variety of subjects relating to regional resources for Latin America is the University of Texas' LANIC (http://lanic.utexas.edu/la/cb/cuba/). Another site one should especially note is the site prepared by the Law Library of the Library of Congress for international and multinational information on their Guide to Law Online (http://www.loc.gov/law/guide/cuba.html).


ACADEMIA DE CIENCIAS DE CUBA   (http://www.academiaciencias.cu/)
Site provided by the Academy of Sciences of Cuba, the official organ of the Cuban government, established for consultation in matters related to science. Contains links to a brief history, institutions, activities, documents, members, organizations, and archives. In Spanish and English.

BIBLIOTECA NACIONAL JOSE MARTI  (http://www.bnjm.cu/bnjm/espanol/index_e.asp)
Website created by the National Library of Cuba, "Jose Marti." The goal of the library is to preserve Cuba's national heritage and literature of universal importance. It is also the national center for bibliographical information, repository for United Nations documents, and custodian of the Ministry of Culture's papers. The site provides links to information about the library, its collections, services, on-line publications, a virtual library, other libraries, email references, cultural events, and news. Website created by the Miguel de Cervantes Library of the Ciego de Avila University, Cuba. The site has links to information about its holdings, acquisitions, documents, and events, databases, statistics and courses offered. In addition, there are also links to a number of digitalized collections including: Spanish author Leopoldo Alas Clarín, Spanish Civil War Exiles, Spanish researcher, writer, and academic Alonso Zamora Vicente, and the latest publications. There is also contact information, news updates, and recommendations. In Spanish.

CUBAN HERITAGE COLLECTION  (http://www.library.miami.edu/umcuban/cuban.html)
The Cuban Heritage Collection (CHC) is housed at the Otto G. Richter Library at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. The mission of the CHC is to collect and preserve primary and secondary source materials concerning the history of Cuba. The library highlights the exhibits of the CHC collection, offers images of selected exhibits, includes information on upcoming events and projects, and provides links to related sites. In English.

INSTITUTO DE LITERATURA Y LINGUISTICA "JOSE ANTONIO PORTUONDO VALDOR"  (http://www.acytec.cu/ill/index.htm)
Website established by the "José Antonio Portuondo Valdor" Literary and Linguistic Institute. Founded in 1965, "the institute's goal is to research and preserve Cuba's literary and linguistic legacy and to study the process of language and literature as expressions of national consciousness." The institute includes the following departments: Literature, Linguistics, Scientific and Technical, and a Library. It also publishes an academic journal annually entitled Literatura y Linguistica. WORLD OF 1898: THE SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR  (http://lcweb.loc.gov/rr/hispanic/1898/)
Provides information on the Spanish-American War, presented by the Hispanic Division of the U.S. Library of Congress. Discusses Cuba, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Spain during war time. Contains a chronology of events, maps, and a selected bibliography. Highlights people, places, and events related to the war.
