Azerbaijan is a recently independent country with an ancient culture. Until 1991 it was a part of the USSR, previous to that, beginning in about 1828 it was a part of the Russian Empire. From Ancient times until becoming part of the Russian Empire, the Azerbaijanis were an important people associated with the states in Asia Minor and Iran. The attached web sites give access to many aspects of Azerbaijani culture and history.

This English language website not only converts the present Gregorian date, in common use in the West, to its modern Hijra equivalent (in common use in the Islamic World), it also provides a mechanism, based on software developed by Waleed A.
