Azerbaijan is a recently independent country with an ancient culture. Until
1991 it was a part of the USSR, previous to that, beginning in about 1828
it was a part of the Russian Empire. From Ancient times until becoming part
of the Russian Empire, the Azerbaijanis were an important people associated
with the states in Asia Minor and Iran. The attached web sites give access
