Health : Mexico

This pathfinder provides links to public health sites and health organizations & institutions in Mexico. Researchers may also wish to consult the National Library of Medicine and National Institutes of Health sites. The major online source of health information are the databases of the World Health Organization, and with regard to Latin American and the Caribbean that source is the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) in Washington, D.C. PAHO is an international public health agency working to improve health and living standards of the countries of the Americas. They provide a variety of databases such as the Health library for disasters; the Adolescent Health database; and the Pan American Center for Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Sciences.General | AIDS/HIV

Features the National Digital Library of Medicine created by the Faculty of Medicine at UNAM (National Autonomous University of Mexico). Includes information about the 11 libraries within the Faculty of Medicine library system. Provides access to databases (some of them are subscription databases), audiovisual resources, and information on publications edited by the Faculty of Medicine (excerpts from some of them are included in pdf format.) Features the Health Virtual Library in Mexico. Provides access to information resources, full-text documents on health (Both in English and Spanish. Some of them written by researchers of the National Institute of Public Health), and selected bibliographies & Web sites on diverse public health issues. Links to health virtual libraries of other Latin American countries. In Spanish.

CENTRO NACIONAL PARA LA PREVENCION Y CONTROL DEL VIH/SIDA  (http://www.salud.gob.mx/conasida/)
Official Home Page of the National Council of AIDS in Mexico. Presents news on AIDS, information about the center, educational resources, statistics on AIDS in Mexico. Also provides access to full-text publications, its library (including, a database of Mexican research on aids and book catalog), and links of interest. In Spanish.

INSTITUTO NACIONAL DE SALUD PUBLICA  (http://www.insp.mx/)
Features the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico. Provides comprehensive information about the Institute, the School of Public Health of Mexico, and health research centers in Mexico. Also provides access to the journal "Revista Salud Pública de México", links to related Web sites, and a directory of the Institute. Mainly in Spanish. Some information is provided in English.

Provides full-text access to the May 7, 1997 General Health Law in Mexico. In Spanish.

MEXICO: BASIC COUNTRY HEALTH PROFILES  (http://www.paho.org/english/sha/prflmex.htm)
The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) offers a country profile of Mexico. The profile features a socioeconomic, political, and demographic overview of the country that includes pertinent statistics. PAHO also provides information concerning health issues for various population groups, diseases and other health-related problems, and health care services in Mexico.

Features the Official Web site of the Mexican Health Secretariat. Includes news, statistics, programs, information about drugs in Mexico, and a organizational chart of this institution. Also provides access to other Web sites within the Mexican Health Secretariat structure, a staff directory, and the library. In Spanish.

UNICEF: OFICINA DE MEXICO  (http://www.unicef.org/mexico/index.html)
Features information about general programs in Mexico. It provides webpage of children’s rights against AIDS/HIV. Also includes links to courses of prevention and opinions about AIDS, publications, and links to similar web pages. In Spanish.

The mission of the US - Mexico Border Health Association is "to promote the improvement of the health and living conditions of the people of the United States-Mexico Border." Includes information about its projects and provides full-text access to its publications. In English and Spanish.

The Amigos Contra el Sida site includes the Mexican institutions that specialize in AIDS. It provides links to statistics, sexual diversity, events, books and libraries, and bulletins on AIDS and HIV. In Spanish.

The Body features current events on AIDS and HIV in Mexico. It provides information on HIV treatments as well as medications being formed. Also, it includes links to health organizations, updates on risks of AIDS, and funds for drugs for AIDS patients in Mexico. In English.
