Lincoln, Pryor, Snyder Announce $299,635 for Early Childhood Development Program

Washington, DCU.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representative Vic Snyder (AR-02) today announced a $299,635 grant to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) through the U.S. Department of Education’s Promotion of School Readiness Through Early Childhood Emotional and Social Development Program.

UAMS will use the funds to increase teachers’ capacity to improve parents’ ability to support children’s social, emotional, and behavioral competencies and enhance early childhood care.  In addition to improving parents’ capabilities, the program is designed to increase the number of parents using research-based practices and accessing community resources and services.

“Children are our most precious resource, and it is essential that they and their parents have access to all the resources and skills possible,” said Lincoln. “I commend UAMS for seeking this federal funding so they can continue to assist parents of young children during this critical phase of their development.”

“Strong early childhood development is a proven factor for later success of a child,” said Pryor.  “This funding will help parents in Little Rock support their children’s development and increase access to vital community services.”

“I applaud this program to improve parenting skills and teach Moms and Dads the many helpful resources available,” said Congressman Vic Snyder. “Parents make a huge difference in the livelihood and development of little ones becoming all they can be one day.”
