LINCOLN, PRYOR, AND SNYDER ANNOUNCE $748,867 GRANT FOR LITTLE ROCK SCHOOL DISTRICT

Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Representative Vic Snyder (AR-02) announced Wednesday that the Little Rock School District (LRSD) has been awarded $748,867 from the Department of Education’s Smaller Learning Communities Program.

Funds from the grant will allow Hall High School to form three academies for ninth and tenth graders that will provide more personalized instruction and support.  The program will help connect students to internships and apprenticeships as part of a career pathways experience.  It will also allow students to enroll in college courses at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and receive both high school and college credit through the University Dual Enrollment Program.

“Our children deserve a high-quality education,” said Lincoln.  “I applaud Little Rock School District and Hall High administrators for seeking additional resources to initiate this innovative program and help students reach their full potential.”

“Early exposure to college courses and career opportunities will have a significant impact on the lives of students at Hall High School,” said Pryor.  “These opportunities will allow them to explore a variety of occupations and develop lasting relationships within the wider professional community.”

“High school is about kids exploring options for the future,” said Congressman Snyder. “These funds will give the Little Rock School District more creative opportunities for Arkansas teens to look ahead.”

Department of Education Smaller Learning Program grants are awarded on a competitive basis to large high schools. The grants support the development of smaller learning communities as part of comprehensive high school improvement plans.
