CONGRESSMAN SNYDER ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE
2008 SPRING CONGRESSIONAL PAGE PROGRAM

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Vic Snyder announced today that his office is accepting applications from high school juniors in Arkansas’s Second Congressional District for the 2008 Spring Session of the U.S. House of Representatives Democratic Page Program. Congressman Snyder’s office is eligible to nominate one student from central Arkansas to serve in the House of Representatives as a Congressional Page from January 27, 2008 until June 6, 2008. The deadline to submit an application is November 13, 2007.

“The House Page program provides unparalleled insight into the Congressional process” Congressman Vic Snyder said. “It is my honor to offer such a valuable educational opportunity to a Central Arkansas student.”

Only 66 young men and women are appointed as Pages each semester. Working as a team, Pages assist Members of Congress with their legislative duties, deliver correspondence and small packages within the congressional complex, answer phones in the Member Cloakrooms, and prepare the House Floor for sessions. While serving the House, Pages live in Washington, D.C. at the Page Residence Hall a few blocks away from the U.S. Capitol. During the academic year, in addition to their responsibilities as support staff to the members of the House, Pages attend classes at the House Page School and receive a monthly salary. House Pages follow the House Calendar, and are permitted to return home only on weekends, except in cases of emergency.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age prior to the start of the program, a junior in high school, have a 3.0 or higher grade point average in major subjects, and must be a citizen of the United States.  Applicants must submit a completed application form, an official transcript from grades 9 and 10, a 250-300 word autobiographical essay, three letters of recommendation, a parental consent form and a school report signed by a principal or counselor.

To request an application form, students should contact Valerie McNeese at valerie.mcneese@mail.house.gov or (202) 225-2506.

The Second Congressional District is comprised of Conway, Faulkner, Perry, Pulaski, Saline, Van Buren, White, and Yell counties.
