On the Sunday before Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, we should probably all keep in mind the life of a great man -- oh and rejoice in the fact that most of us have a three-day weekend and we can stay up late to booze before the inauguration.

Those not interested in toasting to a new administration might be interested in seeing Taylor Swift or AC/DC, two of the top gigs on tour right now.

Cary Grant was born on this very day as were Kevin Costner, Dave Attell and Jason Segel (right).

As more than half of the country is in the grips of Jack Frost, this weekend might be a good time to find a nice warm pub somewhere and have a beer. We can suggest some good drinks for this particular weekend as Inaugural events kick off.

If you'd prefer to go out and do something, there's always the H.O.P.E. Inaugural Ball tonight. Or maybe you could go check out a new movie this weekend. 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop' is in theaters now.

Andy Kaufman would have celebrated his 60th birthday today. Jim Carrey and his 'Yes Man' co-star Zooey Deschanel (right with Carrey) also share this birthday with Kid Rock and Dwyane Wade.

Today Is...
- 17th Day of 2009
- Ben Franklin Day
- Customer Service Day

One Big Boozey Meal, Two Great Beers And A Whiskey Cake

Beer Goggins

About a week ago, a couple friends came over and brought some delicious beer and a cake baked with Irish whiskey. And of course, we needed to eat. So we made food with beer -- a potato dish with a nice oatmeal stout. It was delicious. The stout was Young's Oatmeal Stout but we drank Ommegang and Smuttynose Winter Ale as well.

It was the first chance I'd had to try Ommegang Abbey Ale which is a dark beer with a great taste. And the Smuttynose Winter Ale is similar to a Belgian Abbey Double making it a perfect complement to a delicious dinner and to the Ommegang.

We here at the Daily Drink are ditching some very silly New Year's resolutions. That's right, we're falling off the wagon again just in time for the Obama presidency.

As we shift into the weekend before Barack Obama's Inauguration, you might want to enjoy a cocktail in celebration or possibly to commiserate with a bottle of something about a change you're not happy about. Either way, we've got a couple topical drinks to suggest for this historic event. And you can choose from liquor or beer.

It just so happened that our first family exercise in bread-making coincided with Little L's inaugural stomach virus and our scheduled trip to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico tomorrow.
