Vaccine Facts Sidebar
VISI proposed a section of the cardboard carton of vaccines be used for a sidebar to contain Vaccine Facts. To facilitate finding key information before administering a vaccine, it would be provided in a uniform format, analogous to the Nutrition Facts sidebar on retail food packages. If necessary, the Vaccine Facts sidebar can run over one or even two edges to occupy adjacent faces of typical six-sided packaging. The following four groups of information are included—
Group 1: The full name, abbreviation, and brand name of the vaccine, the abbreviation for the vaccine manufacturer and/or distributor, and the NDC number.
Group 2: The number of doses in the container, a description of the packaging presentation, the total volume if the package contains one container or the number of vials and volumes of each if the package contains multiple primary containers, the active ingredients, and the storage requirements.
Group 3: The volume of an individual dose and route of administration, key warnings, and trace components.
Group 4: The manufacturer's name, city, state, and postal code, and the name, city, state, postal code, and toll-free telephone number of the distributor's U.S. headquarters.
