- Asama Volcano Observatory
- Maintained by the University of Tokyo's Volcano Research Center, this observatory was established in 1933. Monitoring based on seismicity, tilt, EDM, leveling, and video.
- Kirishima Volcano Observatory
- Maintained by the University of Tokyo's Volcano Research Center, this observatory was established in 1963 to monitor both Kirishima and the adjacent Kakuto Caldera. Monitoring based on seismicity, tilt, EDM, leveling, proton magnetometer, and temperature surveys of three major thermal fields.
- Izu-Oshima Volcano Observatory
- Maintained by the University of Tokyo's Volcano Research Center, this observatory was established in 1984.

Tatsuro Chiba is also affiliated with Asia Air Survey Co., Ltd., and has taken some excellent aerial photographs of recent eruptions at Komagatake and Kuju. Also air photos of Unzen in 1995.
