NRCS Employee Recognized as Unsung Hero

Jolene Lau, NRCS public affairs specialist in Hawaii was the sole NRCS
employee and the only Asian American selected to receive a 2005 USDA Unsung Hero
Award. Jolene recently received her award at a ceremony in Washington D.C.
during Public Service Recognition Week. She was nominated by her NRCS peers for
her outstanding coordination of a career development conference for all USDA
employees in Hawaii. The conference was the first of its kind to offer a
listening session and workshops for leadership, strategic planning, presentation
skills, cultural communication, and productive relationships with others. USDA
employees
are selected nationwide for the award which recognizes those who exemplify
the best in public service through "quiet and efficient dedication to the public
good." The USDA Unsung Hero Award is sponsored by the Association of Technical
and Supervisory Professionals, USDA Employees Services and Recreation
Association, the National Association of Federal Veterinarians, the USDA Chapter
of Senior Executives Association, and USDA Organization of Professional
Employees.
