How can I get my order changed?
 Question
How can I get my support order reviewed? I don't have enough money. The court order doesn't meet the state guidelines.
 Answer
Either parent can ask the state that has jurisdiction over the case to have the order reviewed at least every three years (sometimes more often) or if there is a significant (as defined by the state) change of circumstances. Call your state child support office for specific information or if there is a sudden change - loss of a job, for example. State CSE agency telephone numbers and addresses are at (English): http://ocse.acf.hhs.gov/int/directories/index.cfm?fuseaction=main.extivdlist

(Spanish) http://ocse.acf.hhs.gov/int/directories/index.cfm?fuseaction=main.extEspanolIVDAll

When older orders are adjusted, the state can modify the order using the state guidelines, a cost-of-living adjustment formula or automated review and adjustment methods. Your CSE agency is the best source of information about reviewing your order or about your case.

Links to the state CSE websites are at: http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/cse/extinf.html

Some states post their guidelines for setting child support orders on their websites, or you can call the state CSE agency to find out how to get a copy. Also, we have found that doing an internet search for "support guidelines" will take you to guidelines for a number of states. (We have not reviewed these sites for accuracy and are not responsible for their content.)
