inspections-one of the basic activities of public health departments-involve intrusion
into private premises and raise the possibility of running afoul of the Fourth Amendment
prohibition on unreasonable governmental search and seizure. This module will help you
understand how the law defines a search and what procedures must be followed prior to,
during, and after an inspection to assure compliance with Fourth Amendment protections.
