This pathfinder includes information about electronic sources on Mexican cinema: motion pictures, history & criticism, organizations, and film festivals. The electronic resources are divided into the following sections:

For information about resources on Mexican cinema at the Library of Congress, consult its online catalog (http://catalog.loc.gov).
For additional materials at the Library of Congress, consult the Performing Arts Reading Room.

The most important source for bibliography of books and articles concerning Mexico is the annual Handbook of Latin American Studies (http://lcweb2.loc.gov/hlas/) produced by over 160 contributing editors under the editorship of the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress. Additional coverage of journal articles can be found through a subscription to the Hispanic American Periodical Index (http://hapi.gseis.ucla.edu/).   Both the Handbook and HAPI are available in selected libraries in book form.  

One of the major aggregators for links to a wide variety of subjects relating to regional resources for Latin America is the University of Texas' LANIC (http://lanic.utexas.edu/la/mexico/).

Features the site of the Center for Cinematographic Training in Mexico D.F., which aims to train high level professionals in all the areas related to the film industry. Provides information about its academic program, facilities, productions, film screenings, and reports published by the center. In Spanish.

Features the official site of the Cineteca Nacional (National Film Library) in Mexico. Provides information about its services, history (a brief timeline), policies, events & film screenings, and publications. In Spanish.
 
COMISION NACIONAL DE FILMACIONES MEXICO  (http://www.conafilm.org.mx/)
Official Web site of the National Film Commission México. Its mission is "to promote the production of films, TV programs and commercials in Mexico and to give assistance to all companies and producers interested in developing their projects in our country." It provides information in the following issues: industry infrastructure, locations in all Mexico, and legal matters. This organization acts as liaison between the federal and state's Government departments and the production companies. In English and Spanish.
 
FILMOTECA DE LA UNAM  (http://www.unam.mx/filmoteca/)
Features the film library of the UNAM (Universidad Autónoma de México). Provides information about its events, film screenings, and services, Also provides access to a radio magazine, and to a Mexican filmography database containing information about more than 12,000 titles produced in Mexico from 1896 up to now. In order to access this database, one has to register as a user (free service). In Spanish.
 
INSTITUTO MEXICANO DE CINEMATOGRAFIA  (http://www.imcine.gob.mx)
Features the Web site of the Mexican Institute of Cinematography (IMCINE). Provides information about the Institute: history and its role in Mexican production, promotion, and distribution. Presents detailed information about films supported financially by the Institute and other Mexican movies. Also includes links to full-text documents on Mexican film law.
