This selection of rare books from the 15th, 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries includes two copies of Columbus’ account of his discoveries; a “Proof of noble blood” of Sebastián Vizcaíno, Cabeza de Vaca’s account of his journey through the Southwest, and Bernardo de G á lvez’s diary of the conquest of British Pensacola by the Spanish during the American Revolution.

Meeting of Frontiers
This collection includes 44 books, mostly by early travelers to Siberia and the Russian Far East, that document the growth of geographic and scientific knowledge about this region in the eighteenthth century. The collection shows that many well-known explorers were also prolific writers. Other volumes in the collection include Merriweather Lewis' account of the Lewis and Clark expedition, a book on Alaska in Icelandic that the U.S. government published to attract settlers from Iceland, and President Theodore Roosevelt's personal copy of Tent Life in Siberia, presented to him by the famous American Siberian explorer, George Kennan.
