Cod Fishing in New England Coastal Waters

Many of New England's fishermen have been Portuguese or of Portuguese descent. In this photograph, a fisherman brings in a large cod fish. The Portuguese are traditionally a seafaring people, and cod is among their most important sources of nutrition.
