September 10, 2002 - Folk singer Tom Paxton, Neptune Plaza, Thomas Jefferson Building at noon (part of the "Summon the Heroes" concert series) -- NO TICKETS REQUIRED.

September 11, 2002 – Live screening of televised national events for LC staff and interested members of the public, Coolidge Auditorium, Ground Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, beginning at 8:00am.

September 11, 2002 – GALLERY TALK: Georgia Higley, Serial Division, discusses newspapers from across the nation and around the world, which chronicled the events of September 11, in the "Witness and Response" exhibition, North Gallery, Great Hall, 1st Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, at noon.

September 12, 2002 - Virginia Grand Military Band and LC Chorale, Coolidge Auditorium, Ground Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, at noon (part of the "Summon the Heroes" concert series) -- NO TICKETS REQUIRED.

September 18, 2002 - GALLERY TALK: Cassy Ammen (HSS) and Diane Kresh, director, Public Service Collections, discuss the Library's "September 11 Web Archive: Preserving the Web Expressions of Individuals, Groups, the Press and Institutions from Around the World" in the "Witness and Response" exhibition, North Gallery, Great Hall, Thomas Jefferson Building, at noon.

September 18, 2002 - Panel discussion on the New York Times series "Portraits of Grief" which ran after 9/11; participants are metro editor Jonathan Landman; assistant metro editor Christine Kay; and reporters Janny Scott, Anthony DePalma and Jan Hoffman. Jeremy Adamson, P&P, will be the moderator. Mumford Room, 6th Floor, James Madison Building, 2:00 to 4:00pm.

September 24, 2002 - Lawrence Reger, president, Heritage Preservation, and Jane Long, director of the Heritage Emergency National Task Force co-chair a panel discussion on "The Impact of September 11 on Cultural Heritage," Mumford Room, 6th Floor, James Madison Building, 2:00 to 4:00pm.

October 2, 2002 - GALLERY TALK: Katherine Blood (P&P), "Artistic Responses to September 11," and Carol Johnson (P&P), "Eyewitness: Documentary Photography of September 11," in the "Witness and Response" exhibition, North Gallery, Great Hall, 1st Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, at noon.

October 2, 2002 - Panel discussion moderated by Harry Katz, with comic book artists and illustrators who were involved in creating September 11 comic books and graphic novels; participants are Will Eisner, Paul Levitz, Jeff Mason, Peter Kuper and Trina Robbins, Mumford Room, 6th Floor, James Madison Building, 2:30 to 4:00pm.

October 3, 2002 - Special Gallery Talk: Bibi Marti and Jodi Hanel from EXIT ART Gallery in New York will discuss the amazing 9/11 materials gathered by the Gallery and how they came to be a part of the Library's collection.

October 9, 2002 - GALLERY TALK: Ann Hoog, Folklife, on "Recording Americans' Reactions" in "Witness and Response" exhibition, North Gallery, Great Hall, 1st Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, at noon.

October 16, 2002 - GALLERY TALK: C. Ford Peatross (P&P) discusses "A New World Trade Center: Design Proposals from Around the World" in "Witness and Response" exhibition, North Gallery, Great Hall, 1st Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, at noon.

October 17, 2002 - Liz Lerman Dance Exchange, Coolidge Auditorium, Ground Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, 8:00pm -- TICKETS REQUIRED (free, but must be ordered via TicketMaster); a limited number of tickets will be avialable at the door.

October 22, 2002 - Photographer Joel Meyerowitz will discuss his photographs of the World Trade Center site, taken daily from 9/11 to May 2002, Mumford Room, 6th Floor, James Madison Building, 2:00 to 4:00pm.

October 23, 2002 - GALLERY TALK: Helen Zughaib, Helga Thompson and Kitty Caparella, three artists who are represented in the exhibition, will discuss the motivation and meaning of their work, in "Witness and Response" exhibition, North Gallery, Great Hall, 1st Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, at noon.

October 23, 2002 - FILM: Selected video footage from 9/11, Mary Pickford Theater, 3rd Floor, James Madison Building, 7:00pm.

October 24, 2002 - GALLERY TALK: Rick Meyerowitz and Maira Kalman from the New Yorker will talk about the very creative cover they produced for the magazine after September 11, in "Witness and Response" exhibition, North Gallery, Great Hall, 1st Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, at noon.

October 24, 2002 - PANEL DISCUSSION: Mike Mashon, film curator for Motion Picture, Broadcasting and Recorded Sound Division, will moderate a panel discussion exploring filmmakers response to 9/11. Participants include Pola Rapaport, Monica Sharf, Kerry Reardon, Evan Fairbanks and Pat Aufdeheide. The first four are filmmakers whose work can be seen in the "Witness and Response" exhibition; Pat Aufdeheide is a professor at American University who has written about the film community's response to 9/11. Mumford Room, 6th Floor, James Madison Building, 1:00 to 3:00pm.

October 25, 2002 - Office of Scholarly Programs and the African Middle Eastern Division cosponsor a workshop on "Teaching the Other: Muslims, Non-Muslims and the Stories They Teach," focusing on how different societies and cultures instruct their children in other cultures and societies, LJ 113 and 119, 1st Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, 9:00am to 3:30pm.

November 1, 2002 - PANEL DISCUSSION: Robert Ivy, editor of Architectural Record, moderates a panel discussion with participants TBA about the various architectural proposals for the World Trade Center site. Coolidge Auditorium, Ground Floor, Thomas Jefferson Building, 1:30 to 3:00pm.
