Use both the Main
Card Catalog (through 1980) and the Computer
Catalog to find books and periodicals on the Olympics in the
Library's collections. In many cases it will be necessary to search
under more than one heading, because the terms have changed over
time. One always should consult Library of Congress Subject Headings
for subdivisions and related headings. Examples are as follows:
OLYMPICS; OLYMPIC GAMES; WINTER OLYMPIC GAMES; OLYMPIC GAMES (WINTER).
It is also possible to find books on specific Olympics by searching
the site as part of the heading. Books about individual Olympians
generally are classed with that person's sport. If a subject search
for the athlete's name bears no results, check Library of Congress
Subject Headings for the appropriate term. For example, only 2
of 17 books about Jesse Owens have OLYMPICS as a subject entry,
whereas 10 entries are found under TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES.
