Stars and Stripes: U.S. Military Newspapers in the Library of Congress

Post-World War II Editions (Europe)

Various editions of the European Stars and Stripes published in Germany, and the Pacific Stars and Stripes published primarily in Tokyo, are available at the Library of Congress through the mid-1980s. The U.S. editions of the National Tribune are available through December 1985. Daily editions of Stars and Stripes were published in Pfungstadt ( near Frankfurt) and Altdorf (near Nuremberg) until 1949 when the newspaper moved to its current location at Greisheim (near Darmstadt). A Germany edition has been published for U.S. forces in Europe since April 7, 1945. The following daily editions are held by the Library of Congress.

This edition was published from May 1, 1945 to December 5, 1946. Print issues are available for October 1, 1945 to September 30, 1946.

The Library of Congress has issues of Midweek published from August 16, 1945 to January 9, 1946.

The current European edition of Stars and Stripes was acquired by the Library of Congress from May 4, 1947 to June 30, 1985.

The Library of Congress has a complete collection of Stars and Stripes Magazine published in Paris from June 3, 1945 to January 20, 1946.

This edition was published from April 7, 1945 to April 17, 1946. A complete collection is available in the Library of Congress.
