Welcome to the Alexandria Library
Founded 1794

Our web site, created in 1994 and updated in August 2005, was designed to provide patrons with information on their library services and to give them year round, 24 hour-a-day remote access to our on-line catalog, their own records, and most of the databases to which we subscribe. Our residents are our primary clientele, but we welcome visitors from everywhere on the World Wide Web. This latest version of the web site was created by the Library's staff. We value your comments and suggestions. Enjoy the Alexandria Library on the Web!

The Gift of Giving

There are several ways to give to the Library. The Alexandria Library Foundation was formed to enhance the Alexandria Library's services through private donations. More information, including naming opportunities, can be found on the Foundation homepage. The Library has recently posted two Wish Lists on Amazon.com: an Adult Wish List and a Juvenile Wish List for enhancing the adult and children's collections. Each branch also has its own Friends group. To learn more about these groups, visit the Friends of Alexandria Library page. Finally, the Library does accept gently used material donations. Please contact a branch of your choice to find out if they are receiving material donations at this time.

Online Booklists

Online versions of many printed Adult Booklists are available on our new Booklist page. Our online catalog has Bestsellers lists under its Awards/Bestsellers tab, which links to titles available for patrons to reserve. Online Children's Suggested Reading Booklists can be found in the middle of the Children's Services page. Local History/Special Collections also has online collection indexes and guides.

Alexandria Library's Online Databases
and E-Journal A-Z List

We provide access to electronic reference works and databases of searchable articles from thousands of periodicals. Click here for the gateway page for the online databases. Our E-Journal A-Z list cross searches our online databases that provide titles with full-text, indexed, and abstracted materials. If a title is not available, please check our online catalog or WorldCat as it may be available in print. Click here to search the E-Journal A-Z list.
